Self-Taught Artist Pays Tribute to Selena

Christopher Montoya had long wanted to replace the graffiti he saw on a wall of the small shopping center on South Flores [in San Antonio, Texas].

In early March, the 19-year-old self-taught artist approached the owners, and with permission, got to work on a mural, choosing Tejano singer Selena as his subject.

Montoya was mindful that the 17th anniversary of Selena’s death was approaching when he began the project. The Tejano star was killed on March 31, 1995.

The mural depicts a smiling Selena, her long black hair flowing behind her against a background of stylized indigenous design motifs. Read More at MySA
